My husband and I have been wanting to take a couple cooking class - we were visiting Washington DC for the week and was so happy we could get in with Chef Gustavo. He was a delight! We enjoyed the cooking class and the experience of a new way to cook! Chef Gustavo was an excellent host!

This was my 2nd time with Chef Gustavo. He always puts on a unique experience that is unforgettable. I love that we learn so much about the history and culture of the dishes we're making, and his dishes are approachable and ones I will make at home. Our class with Chef Gustavo was a WONDERFUL experience. He is so kind and welcoming! Notably, I also am a symptomatic celiac and was really reaffirmed when he re-confirmed dietary restrictions and allergies day-of. Only one dish needed a slight modification and he did so thoughtfully and with ease. All of the food we made in the class was delicious and easy enough to replicate at home (with much thanks to Chef Gustavo)! I recommend everyone to take this class but especially folks who are gluten sensitive or Celiac - this one is a great one!

Chef Gustavo is very patient and enjoys teaching. This class was devoted to Chilean food. I really appreciated the instruction on how to slice and dice bell peppers and garlic. There is no waste of the veggies if you do it his way. We learned how to stuff mussels with cheese and sausages, cook and mash corn, saute peppers and onions, put all of this together and mix in raw ground beef. The dessert was a delicious Leche Nevada--vanilla pudding like--that reminded me of my childhood, decades ago!

Food has been at the heart of the human experience for millennia. For as long as humans have gathered. food meant life or death for the community, and sharing food cemented the common bonds that eventually became society. Chef Gustavo uses this as a preamble for an evening with Peruvian cuisine. He spends time with each student discussing the ingredients and how to properly prepare them. When everything comes together with the proper flavors, temperatures, and presentation, it is a work of art you want to savor with your eyes before you start nibbling at the edges. But the Chef is not at all imposing. In fact, he is accommodating to everyone gathered around the table and respectful of their abilities and their backgrounds. There were seven of us and we all fit comfortably around the table. Everything was just right, and it was an enjoyable evening.

This was an awesome experience. Purchased this for my wife for her birthday and it didn't disappoint at all. Chef Gustavo was amazing. Each dish he explained in detail how we were going to prep and demonstrated everything with some good tips thrown in. The meals were absolutely fantastic and each meal he gave information and history on them which was super cool. It was truly family style cooking. Chef Gustavo had a very comfortable and clean setup. Would absolutely recommend to anyone. We had a 10 year old in our group and he was amazing giving her safe tasks to do and explaining things and adjusting dishes for her portions. I had an excellent time in Gustavoâ€™s Argentine-Style Grilling class. I learned some new knife techniques while helpeding to prep ingredients for some classics like chimichurri and salsa creola. Gustavo then showed us how to properly grill meats Argentine-style, low and slow. The best part was sitting down together to enjoy all the delicious meats right as they came off the grill. This was such an excellent experience! We had a fantastic time with Chef Gustavo! We learned many new chopping/dicing tips and techniques in the gazpacho prep, the gazpacho was delicious and so light & fresh! After our first course we headed to Chef Gustavoâ€™s back courtyard to learn more about the history of the traditional paella dish and take part in the cooking of the dish under the bistro lights. The end result was the best paella all of us had ever had - lots and lots of different seafood! We didnâ€™t think we would have room for dessert but we couldnâ€™t pass up such a perfect end to a perfect night. Thank you Chef Gustavo!

I don't even know where to start, because Chef Gustavo went above and beyond customer service from start to finish to make my friends bachelorette party an unforgettable experience. Gustavo was prompt to answer all my questions prior to the event. He accommodated many food allergies without any complications, and recommended the perfect wine for the dinner. His passion for cooking is contagious. We learned not only about tips and tricks to make a perfect 3 course meal that is not only delicious but also pleasing to the eye, but also how to prepare food from fresh, organic food with minimal waste. Gustavo also shared the history of where Paella comes from. w We loved every minute of the day. It was 9 of us and our ages were between 30 - 65 years old. Thank you Chef Gustavo, you are amazing. :)

He did a great job making accommodations for dietary needs of our diverse corporate group, and he also accounted for the beginner and more advanced cooking skills across our team members. We strongly recommend booking with Chef Gustavo, and hope to return soon. We had an indoor experience and outdoor frying paella in the chef's private garden. One note is that some team members were confused by the location because a nearby property was vacant/under construction, but once we saw his lovely sign "Chef Gustavo" we knew we were in the right place.

I rarely leave online reviews - only when I have excellent or very bad experiences (I find these the most useful to share with others..). The cooking/dining session with Chef Gustavo is one of the best pleasant/enjoyable my wife and I have done in a long time. It was absolutely fantastic in all counts: the food was top notch, the experience in terms of the learning and the interaction with Gustavo a pure joy, and we actually learned how to cook Paella (which I was initially wary as being a complex dish), simple but richly tasteful appetizers and dessert. We will not only be cooking these at home for us, family and friends, but we will surely return for another wonderful lesson and memorable experience with Chef Gustavo (and bring friends & family along). I don't want to be dramatic but this was easily one of my favorite dining experiences of the year. I go to a lot of steakhouses and none of it touches the quality of meat we grilled and ate with Chef Gustavo. He has such a beautiful home and was so welcoming. Chef Gustavo was wonderful!! We had a full group and we had so much fun. The food was delicious, he shared all of his 'secrets' with us, and we all learned something about each of the places he selected dishes from. Absolutely loved Chef Gustavo and his cooking class! He was so welcoming and made it a priority to show us that the meals we cooked in the class can be easily replicated at home. I enjoyed that it was a small group (only 6 people total) and that we were able to socialize, in addition to prep ingredients and help cook. Truly a wonderful experience that I would recommend to anyone.

We had an absolute blast last night with Chef Gustavo in his South American Flavors class! He was extremely friendly and accommodating, and you could tell he cares so much about people leaving his class with the confidence to recreate the dishes at home. He gave a history/background for each dish and explained each step in ways a home chef can understand. Not to mention, the food was delicious! Chef Gustavoâ€™s Ibero American fusion class was incredible. He was such an excellent teacher and friendly person to spend the evening with. He has so much experience and knowledge about cooking that it was wonderful to learn from him. He answered all our questions and more. I chose to take a class with chef Gustavo along with my partner for our anniversary. We both had a wonderful time. Chef's place was very cozy and immediately felt like home, which helped ease the unfamiliar feeling of going somewhere new. We were joined by two other people that came together and they were both wonderful people to meet during the evening. The food was fantastic, but the special part of the evening was the way chef Gustavo made the evening feel like a gathering of loved ones rather than a room full of strangers. We started off with some introductions and some safety tips before getting into the cooking. Once we began cooking the meal went along at a comfortable pace with chef Gustavo telling stories of his culinary journey to us as we enjoyed the food we all helped to prepare. I consider myself an intermediate home chef, and I learned a few things over the course of the evening, my partner is a little less experienced in the kitchen and she learned some things as well. What was impressive is that no matter your experience level, the environment was set so that everyone felt comfortable cooking and asking questions about what they were doing. I would say that the experience was like lightning in a bottle, but I have a feeling that chef Gustavo is good at making any group that goes into his kitchen feel happy to be there and excited to learn. Bottom line: I would absolutely book another experience with chef Gustavo, by all accounts everyone had a great time and the food was delicious. P.s. it may be a good idea to bring some Tupperware since there is a lot of food to eat (don't want to get too full after the first 2 courses)

I canâ€™t say enough good things about this experience. I purchased a three-hour cooking class with Chef Gustavo as a surprise gift, and my girlfriend and I had a wonderful time. Between Chef Gustavoâ€™s engaging personality and artful, patient instruction, itâ€™s hard to identify the best part of the experience, but we couldnâ€™t have walked away more satisfied with the food or the instructor. The entire experience felt like cooking with a friend. At first, I was just interested in learning how to make ceviche dishes, but after tasting everything he taught us to make, I can honestly say I would make each of these dishes again. Everything tasted spectacular, and he made the learning fun and relaxing. The stories Chef Gustavo shared during the class were also incredibly informative and memorable. I never felt rushed at all. Chef Gustavo demonstrated his techniques and how to make the dish, then set us off on our own to try the recipes while always attentively being close by if we ever needed help. He made us feel like we were family. As for getting my moneyâ€™s worth? Yes, yes, and Yes! The value was outstanding. The level of confidence that this class gave me to make these dishes again was priceless. You can teach technique, but itâ€™s hard to teach confidence. Chef Gustavo somehow did it, though. So thank you, Chef Gustavo, for the confidence you gave us and this fun and memorable learning experience. To anyone whoâ€™s thinking of taking this class in the future, I highly recommend it. You will not regret it. I already plan to sign us up for another class later this year, and I would have no hesitation to recommend any class Chef Gustavo is facilitating.

I really enjoyed this course! I posted a Google review with a more thorough review. But in general, the preparations the chef made were great, the cooking space was spacious and beautiful, the ingredients were very fresh, the cooking techniques we learned were completely new to me and very valuable (I will now eat peppers!), and the explanations of the cultural history and the family stories made it very entertaining and gave me a deeper appreciation for the food.

I don't think we could recommend a class with Chef Gustavo highly enough. The food was absolutely extraordinary, but the lessons learned in the class itself were even more useful and made the experience so much more enjoyable. I'm by no means an expert chef, and Gustavo went out of the way to make the experience accessible to even someone with basic knowledge of cooking techniques, giving me plenty of useful tips that I'll apply to everything I make from now on. Additionally, Chef Gustavo went to great lengths to make us feel comfortable by wearing masks, thoroughly cleaning surfaces, and arranging the kitchen to keep distancing while also making the cooking experience enjoyable.

We thoroughly enjoyed our experience with Chef Gustavo, who wove together cooking instructions with tips on technique and cookware, colorful stories about the origins of the recipes we made and stories about the places he has traveled and honed his craft. Chef Gustavo's depth of experience was evident and the atmosphere he created felt warm and personal. Crucially, in these strange Covid times, it also felt very safe: he had put great thought into how we could proceed safely and had a regimen to keep things thoroughly sanitized. What an amazing experience! I'd give it more stars if I could. Chef Gustavo was such a great host, chef and instructor. He shared some tips of the trade as we helped prepare the entrees, which we intend to take advantage of. The food was truly unbelievable. My only advice is to bring some take home containers and only eat a portion of each entree so that you can actually enjoy the last one. We were so full by the time the salmon dish was ready that we could only wish we had more room. What a spectacular experience and evening. The class takes place in his home in DC, which was great because he is teaching you things you can use in your own home - you don't need restaurant equipment! By the way - the churros might be the best thing I've ever tasted!

The food was wonderful, Chef Gustavo has good stories and practical cooking tips. The octopus was my favorite. Chef has a secret trick on how to cook perfect octopus. You'll have to take the class to learn the secret! I usually do not eat raw onions, but Chef showed us how to prepare the onion so that it tastes milder. All and all it was fun and again the food was wonderful.

His fusion recipes intertwine his experience in the restaurant business, teachings from his mama, and lessons from his travels throughout central america. We had an amazing time with Chef Gustavo for the Iberian Fusion class! The food was inventive and delicious, and Chef Gustavo was so welcoming, sharing a lot of his own experiences and culture while really putting a lot of personality into his food. I agree with others that it's not the most hands-on cooking class-- really just the beginning when we learned some basic knife skills-- but we still came away with a lot of new knowledge and techniques to make some simple, healthy, and delicious food. I really appreciated having four courses of "main courses" vs desserts, since in the end we were there for cooking skills and not baking/confectionary. This is a must do when in DC! We had four girls on a girls trip and book this incredible evening spur of the moment. Gustavo was a great host and made us feel at home as soon as we got there. The food â€œweâ€ cooked (mostly him-perfect amount of hands on) was just fantastic. We highly recommend!

What a magical evening. Our party of four was celebrating being together and two birthdays. Chef Gustavo provided a unique, personal, educational and exquisitely tasteful meal. The menu was perfectly constructed and he was even able to accomidate an alternative to the shrimp due to an allergy. I wasnâ€™t certain how much of the prep work we were to do. He did teach us some basic knife skills, but in the end Chef did most of the prep work. However, this is not to say we didnâ€™t learn a huge amount about the meals prep, and we now have practical ideas and skills to translate into our own kitchen. Chef is focused on healthy cooking, and this permeated his menu choices and his cooking style. His passion was not only evident, it was transferred to us. Chefâ€™s home kitchen used for the event was cozy, functional and it turned out an exquisite setting for the event. In short, this event was just perfect. We left informed, entertained and satisfied. There is so much more to say about this experience, but Iâ€™d hope that if the reader partakes of this adventure, youâ€™ll find out the many more magical details all for yourself.

Chef Gustavo was nothing short of amazing! I purchased the class as a surprise for my boyfriend's birthday and best. gift. EVER. We've never taken a cooking class before. We came from Baltimore to DC for the class. The food was literally spectacular. Chef Gustavo ensured that we were comfortable in every way - from the ambiance to the music to the flow of activities. He gave us great cooking tips, broke down all of the recipes, and created the perfect balance between making sure we helped prepare the meals and also had time to enjoy the romantic dinner together. From the history of the food to the presentation to the great conversation, the night could not have gone any better. Chef Gustavo loves what he does and it is seen every step of the way. He made our night extremely special. We already have plans to recreate the shrimp dish with the plantain cake which was our absolute favorite. Chef Gustavo even surprised us with an impromptu dessert and candle so that we could sing happy birthday to my boyfriend. He was a pleasure. All of the meals were 5 stars. The mix of flavors, the right combination of sauces, everything was perfect. The world has a new spinach lover on its hands because of Chef Gustavo's spinach patties. Delectable dinner! Incredible chef! I would recommend this class 10x over!

It is a rare experience when you are in the presence of someone who has an undeniable passion for what they do, and Chef Gustavo is someone who pours his heart and soul into what he does, and is made even more evident by the intimate space he provided. The food was exceptional, and we have dined at more than one Michelin-rated restaurant. We walked in not knowing what to expect, and it was clear the moment we arrived that we were in very good hands. His expertise from decades running his own restaurant was apparent in his ability to explain the steps in preparing the meal. Had we not wanted to participate, every ingredients purpose would have been explained as he added it to the dishes. We are already looking forward to our next booking with him.

The atmosphere in Chef's kitchen was pleasant with latin music in the background to match the cuisine, and the food we prepared with Chef Gustavo was delicious. He threw in a few tips that we can use at home with our cooking. He also included a couple of anecdotes related to some of the food. Chef Gustavo lead our work team on a culinary adventure, showing us the most amazing versions of some of Latin America's most iconic dishes. He shared his own journey along the way, and gave us some incredible tips and tricks. Chef Gustavo was EXCELLENT!! Our team had a fantastic experience learning about Latin American cuisine, and helping to prepare the meal. Chef and his assistant prepped most of the ingredients before our arrival but left just enough work for us to participate and learn some new techniques. Gustavo was a congenital and informative host. He was also patient as we tried our rudimentary Spanish with him and took photos to post on Facebook. As we prepared the four course meal, he helpfully demonstrated how to adapt the recipes by adjusting spices and caloric content to suit our tastes. I highly recommend the Ibero-American Fusion class with Chef Gustavo! Chef Gustavo is really passionate about cooking. His menu has flavors of Latin America and the Caribbean, reflecting his extensive travels. For example, the NY steak dish had a fantastic yellow pepper sauce, which he learned in Peru. Although the many of the ingredients were local, he re-created the sauce using creative techniques and then shared this marvelous recipe with us! He was really generous in sharing his knowledge, not just about the recipes themselves, but about different chopping techniques, how to pick the perfect plantains, and how to grill inside. The three hours flew by between cooking, eating and chatting. We have taken a few cooking classes before, but this menu stands out as the most memorable. Each dish was absolutely incredible, and such a culinary experience! What made it even better was watching Chef Gustavo prepare the dishes and how accessible they could be recreated at home, despite the top-notch restaurant quality.

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed Chef Gustavo's class. The food was marvelous, the narration of the creation of the recipes was illuminating, and the overall atmosphere was pleasing. Chef Gustavo encouraged people to ask questions throughout the evening and answered all easily and honestly. It was apparent that he loved creating meals that people would enjoy, but loved more how those creations impacted the people he was teaching. He involved everyone in the class in small ways in helping to prepare the food, explained how the food was being prepared (demonstrating almost all, involving the class in some, techniques). I was expecting more hands-on experience, but understood why it was limited (by time, and by number of students). I would strongly recommend this class to others to see how food preparation brings joy and satisfaction to the preparer and the consumer.

It was a great experience because you get a little hands on experience like a cooking class but also get to dine in and relax. Gustavo's home is very cozy and his passion is unique. He breaks down the steps so you can actually learn some good techniques and apply them.

Chef Gustavo was amazing! He was very knowledgeable of the culture behind the food and took his time with each plate. We certainly learned a lot and every meal was so delicious, we still think about it. Our only regret was that we were so full by the end that we could not finish every bite. You will definitely not be disappointed by signing up for this class. Worth every penny!

We had a great night with Chef Gustavo! He was excellent company and an even better chef. It felt like a very intimate and interactive chef's table experience...which, I suppose it was! We really enjoyed his Peruvian menu. He taught us quite a bit about how certain small changes shift the flavor of a dish. I really enjoyed tasting as we went to experience flavor layers. There were four of us there and no one could agree on which dish was best. I highly recommend a class with Chef Gustavo.

I was not sure what to expect but this was such a great experience. I am a newbie in the kitchen and my husband has had culinary training. Mine and my family's experience with Chef Gustavo was both amazing and priceless. Here's why: Chef Gustavo was warm, friendly and welcoming. Shortly after spending time with Chef Gustavo, you realize that cooking is not just a profession but a way of life. The history and stories behind the recipes that we made were both enjoyable and informative and added to the experience and appreciation for the food that was prepared and consumed. Because Chef's teaching skills of chopping and sautaying were seamless and smooth, it made it possible for those who were not necessarily skilled at these techniques do able while helping to refine and improve the skills of those familiar with such techniques. Reciepe selection was outstanding in the way of do ability with respect to basic kitchen implements and cookware; time perspective and skill. An evening with Chef Gustavo is an intiment Michelin star experience of food as an expression of love.

Girls night out with Chef Gustavo was wonderful! We were celebrating a special birthday, and this was the perfect evening. Chef Gustavo was warm and welcoming. He educated us on his Ibero-American fusion cooking. And with a little bit of our help,(he did most of the cooking) he made us some amazing dishes! We will definitely go back! I would highly recommend either going to him for a delightful experience or letting him come into your home.

Gustavo was an excellent chef, a patient teacher, and the consummate host. I cannot dream of a better date night than his fusion date night. My boyfriend and I had a fantastic fusion date night with the help of Gustavo! The food was absolutely incredible (the plantain cake and garlic shrimp is to die for!!!) and Gustavo was extremely warm and cheerful. What an amazing experience. Chef Gustavo ensured that out wine pairings complimented each of 4 dishes. His decades of experience as a chef made his unique perspective on his fusion menu perfect. As he told the hostory of each dish he also was able to provide knowledge on best practices and techniques ised on the kitchen. I loved learning about South American flavors with Chef Gustavo! This is the first time I've shelled out for a personal cooking class, and this experience will be hard to beat. He was patient, easygoing, well-prepared, and clearly knowledgeable and enthusiastic about each dish. The kitchen and eating area were homey and welcoming. I wanted a class that let us participate as much as we observed, and he struck a good balance between teaching new skills and letting us help out while wisely handling the more difficult parts so that we would still enjoy our meal. :) It was my birthday and he went out of his way to ensure my friend and I had a lovely evening, which was very much appreciated. I hope I can take another class with him in the future.

Wonderful experience! Chef Gustavo went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and to give us a restaurant-quality experience.
