Trusted by food lovers in NYC since 2014.
Not every date happens in the city. These work when you're in different time zones, when the weather has made the decision for you, or when leaving the apartment is the last thing either of you wants to do. Kits ship ahead, the host runs the session live, and you both end up with something you made.
Booked the class The Best of Italian Favorites with Chef Kenneth
Chef Kenneth was amazing! I booked this class to celebrate my boyfriend’s birthday and we had a blast. We loved everything on the menu - particularly the gnocchi. He also left us with leftovers which were greatly appreciated. Cannot recommend Chef Kenneth enough :)
Booked the food tour Immigrant Influence in NYC with Guide Lauren in Manhattan (Lower East Side)
My wife and I went on the Immigrant Influence food tour of NYC. Seth our tour guide was knowledgeable and friendly. The food was good and plentiful. Make sure you go on an empty stomach. My favorite was the pizza at Nolita's and my wife's favorite was the roasted pork bun from Chinatown. The food stops also included a smoothie, pickle, a cannoli and a Jewish bialys.

Booked the class A Vegan African Feast with Chef Angela-Michelle in Hosted Online
This class was gifted to me by my daughter and her husband for my birthday, and it was such a fun and meaningful way to spend time together while making yummy food. We cooked a delicious Ethiopian vegan feast, including several flavorful dishes and injera bread, which was especially fun and memorable to make. I learned new Ethiopian cooking techniques, how to work with unfamiliar spices, and gained a better understanding of the injera-making process. Chef Angela was warm, friendly, and very skilled. She explained each step clearly, demonstrated techniques well, and regularly checked in to make sure everyone was keeping up. My favorite moment was making the injera and sharing the whole experience with my daughter. The only minor drawbacks were that the 45-minute class felt a bit short for preparing three dishes, even with ingredients prepped, and the listed 30-minute prep time realistically took closer to an hour. The class was also confirmed only 24 hours in advance, which made ingredient shopping a bit rushed. Overall, it was a wonderful experience, and my husband and I thoroughly enjoyed the feast! I’d recommend this class to anyone who enjoys trying new cuisines, loves Ethiopian food, or wants a fun online cooking experience to share with family.

Chef Kenny was fantastic. Every dish was simple yet delicious. I particularly loved the pot stickers and the dessert: coconut cream with tapioca and diced melon. Booked the class The Best of Italian Favorites with Chef Kenneth in Manhattan (Upper East Side)
Chef Ken was great-had a relaxed easygoing but professional manner. He came with everything he needed short of a blender which we provided for and assorted pots/pans. We learned a lot-and were put to work in a fun voluntary manner..our groups got their hands dirty from time to time but Ken also cooked/kept things moving forward as we were also catching up while watching/learning. I was impressed by the time saving use of the blender and various shortcuts learned to save time/effort that provided delicious results! Chef Ken taught us how easy some of these dishes were to make-incredible arancini in a marinara sauce, a fantastic Caesar salad w homemade dressing, homemade gnocchi in a Gorgonzola sauce, and delicious homemade cannoli w chocolate chip ricotta filling! He did a great job of passing tips and tricks along the way.. Our group learned a lot and agreed we would like to recreate some of these dishes at home again. I would recommend working w Chef Ken for your next cooking lesson/dinner party!

Looking for date ideas in NYC? Explore 120+ date ideas in NYC, including hands-on cooking classes, private chef dinners, food tours, mixology classes, wine tastings and virtual experiences for couples. Whether you are planning a first date, anniversary, Valentine's Day date, birthday or spontaneous night together, you can compare experiences by price, location and type of activity.
The best NYC date ideas give you something to experience together, not just somewhere to sit. Cook something new, explore a neighborhood, discover new flavors or turn dinner itself into the experience.
Another advantage of culinary dates is that your activity and meal can often be combined. With cooking classes, private chef experiences and food tours on Cozymeal, the food is included in the experience price, so you do not need to plan and pay for a separate meal around your date.
A cooking class in NYC gives couples a shared activity from the beginning of the date. Learn new techniques, work through recipes together and then enjoy the food you prepared.
Depending on current availability, couples can explore fresh pasta, sushi, baking and cuisines from around the world. Classes are designed for different experience levels, so you do not need to already know how to cook. Part of the experience is learning something new together.
Ingredients and the food you prepare are included in the class price, so one booking takes care of both the activity and the meal. Select classes may also be available privately or at your place for couples who want a more personal date night.
A private chef in NYC makes dinner itself the date. Instead of making a restaurant reservation, a chef comes to your suitable location and prepares the meal for you.
The chef handles the ingredients, cooking, serving and cleanup afterward, leaving you free to spend the evening together. Private chef experiences can work especially well for anniversaries, birthdays, Valentine's Day, proposals and occasions when you want more privacy than a restaurant can offer.
The food and ingredients are included in the experience price, so there is no separate dinner to purchase or prepare.
A food tour in NYC turns New York City itself into part of the date. Instead of spending the entire experience in one place, you can walk through a neighborhood, visit multiple food stops and discover more about local dishes, people and stories along the way.
Food tours work particularly well for couples who enjoy exploring and trying different things. They can be just as fun for New Yorkers rediscovering their city as for couples visiting NYC together.
The food tastings are included in the tour price, so exploring and eating are part of the same experience.
For a drinks-focused date, a mixology class in NYC turns making cocktails into a hands-on activity. Learn techniques, experiment with flavors and make drinks together under the guidance of an expert.
A wine tasting in NYC offers a more relaxed option, giving couples an opportunity to explore different wines while learning more about varietals, regions, aromas and flavor profiles.
Both can work well for first dates, casual evenings and couples who want an interactive experience without planning a traditional dinner date.
You do not have to go out in NYC, or even be in the same city, to plan a memorable date.
Online cooking classes let couples prepare the same meal together from their own kitchens. Online mixology classes turn making cocktails into a shared virtual activity, while virtual wine tastings give couples a relaxed way to sip, learn and spend time together.
These virtual date ideas work particularly well for long-distance couples, but they are also an easy way for NYC couples to make a night at home feel more intentional.
When comparing the cost of date ideas in NYC, look beyond the starting price and consider what is already included.
For cooking classes, private chefs and food tours, you do not need to budget for a separate restaurant meal on top of your date activity. The food is already part of the experience.
Browse current availability, compare options and choose the experience that best fits your date, budget and preferred time.
Shared experiences give couples something to do, discover and talk about together.
Rolling sushi, making pasta, mixing cocktails or exploring an NYC neighborhood naturally creates moments to interact. That can be especially useful on a first date, when sitting across from each other for several hours can sometimes feel more formal.
Trying something new together can also make the evening more memorable. You do not need to master a new skill. The point is to share an experience that is different from your usual dinner or drinks.
Culinary dates can also simplify the evening. A cooking class combines an activity with the food you make, a food tour incorporates tastings throughout the experience and a private chef makes dinner itself the event.
There is no single perfect date night in New York City. The best choice depends on what you both enjoy and the kind of evening you want.
Choose a cooking class if you enjoy discovering new cuisines and want to get hands-on together. Instead of simply ordering a favorite dish, you can learn how to make it and enjoy the finished meal together.
A food tour is another good option if you would rather sample several dishes while exploring NYC.
A private chef dinner creates a more intimate dining experience at your home or another suitable private location. It can be particularly fitting for anniversaries, proposals and other occasions when you want more privacy and fewer distractions.
Choose a food tour if you would rather walk, discover and taste your way through NYC than spend the entire date in one location.
A cooking class can also work well for adventurous couples who want to try a cuisine or technique that is new to both of them.
Staying home does not have to mean another night of takeout.
A private chef can bring the dining experience to you, select cooking classes can take place at your location and online cooking, mixology and wine experiences can turn an evening at home into a shared activity.
Online cooking classes, online mixology classes and virtual wine tastings let couples take part in the same activity from different places.
Instead of simply scheduling another video call, you can make the same meal, mix cocktails or explore wine together while following an instructor or host.
Good first date ideas give you something to focus on while still leaving plenty of room for conversation.
Cooking classes, food tours and mixology classes can work particularly well because the activity naturally creates things to talk about and shared moments throughout the date.
Compare the total cost of the evening, not just the activity price.
With cooking classes, private chef experiences and food tours on Cozymeal, food is already included. That means you may not need to pay separately for both a date activity and dinner.
For an anniversary, consider an experience that gives you more uninterrupted time together. A private chef dinner can create an intimate evening, while a couples cooking class gives you something new to learn and enjoy together.
Popular Valentine's Day dates can book earlier than ordinary weeknights, so planning ahead generally gives you more choice.
Cooking classes, private chef dinners and wine experiences can also give couples an alternative to competing for a traditional Valentine's Day restaurant reservation.
If your partner is celebrating a birthday, make the experience part of the gift. Choose something around their favorite cuisine, drink or style of date, whether that means making sushi, exploring NYC on a food tour or enjoying a dinner prepared by a private chef.
Rain does not have to cancel your plans.
Indoor cooking classes, mixology classes and private chef dinners keep the date centered around a shared experience without relying on good weather. Online cooking classes and virtual tastings give you another option if you would rather stay home.
The best date idea in NYC depends on the experience you want, the occasion, your budget and how you want to spend your time together. Whether you’re planning a first date, anniversary, special celebration or casual date night, use these tips to find an experience that works for both of you.
For a hands-on date, book a couples cooking class and learn to make something new together. If you would rather explore the city, choose an NYC food tour and discover local dishes and neighborhoods along the way. For a more intimate date night, book a private chef and enjoy a restaurant-quality meal at home without having to cook or clean up.
Different occasions call for different experiences. Cooking classes and food tours can be great for first dates and casual nights out because they give you something to do and talk about together. For anniversaries, birthdays, proposals and other special occasions, a private chef dinner or memorable cooking class can make the evening feel more personal.
Think about whether you want to go out, stay in or explore a new part of NYC. Cooking classes may take place at a chef’s venue or, for select experiences, at your location. Food tours let you experience NYC together on foot, while private chefs bring the dining experience to your home or another suitable location. Long-distance couples and couples planning a night in can also explore online experiences.
When comparing date ideas in NYC, consider the full experience rather than price alone. Cooking classes include ingredients and the food you prepare, private chef experiences include ingredients, cooking, serving and cleanup and food tours include the featured tastings. Review the individual listing for the current menu, location, availability, duration and other details, then book the date-night experience that best fits your plans.
Compare popular NYC date ideas to find the experience that best fits the kind of evening you are planning.
