Measure and prep all ingredients. Preheat the oven to 350°F. Grease and line an 8x8-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
In a microwave-safe bowl, add the butter, oil, chopped dark chocolate, dark brown sugar and granulated sugar. Microwave on high for 30 seconds and stir. Continue to microwave in 15 second intervals and stir until the chocolate and butter are melted.
Stir in the buttermilk, large egg, egg yolk, vanilla extract and liquid red food coloring.
Add the all-purpose flour, Dutch-processed cocoa powder, baking powder and salt. Stir until just combined.
Transfer the batter to the prepared baking pan and smooth out the batter with an offset spatula.
Prepare the cream cheese swirl. In a bowl, combine the cream cheese, egg, granulated sugar and vanilla extract. Use an electric mixer to beat the cream cheese mixture until smooth.
Place dollops of the cream cheese mixture on top of the red velvet brownie batter. Use an offset spatula or a knife to make swirls.
Bake for 30-35 minutes, until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with just a few moist crumbs attached.
Let the brownies cool completely on a wire rack before slicing and serving. Enjoy!
