What You’ll Do

Join Chef Gustavo and your team on a journey to Cuba, Venezuela and Puerto Rico.

In this hands-on team building class, Chef Gustavo will be your host and guide you and your team as you work together and learn how to recreate the colorful flavors of Caribbean cuisine in your own kitchen.

Chef Gustavo emphasizes the traditional flavors and flair of Cuban, Venezuelan, and Puerto Rican cuisine in his four-course menu. Some of the recipes you can look forward to preparing with your colleagues include garlicky and citrusy Cuban vaca frita, the basics of extremely versatile Venezuelan arepas, and authentic Puerto Rican mofongo de maduros.

Guests are welcome to bring wine and beer to enjoy during the class.

Latin American cuisine is what Chef Gustavo is all about. As the owner and executive chef of Rumba Café in Adams Morgan for 20 years, he understands this cuisine more than anything else. He draws his inspiration from his own travels through Latin America, the Caribbean, France, Spain and more. He studied at L’ Academie de Cuisine and is knowledgeable in French cuisine as well. He is available to teach classes in both English and Spanish.

Gustavo was fantastic -- made my group of co-workers and me feel like family, the food was absolutely fabulous, and I picked up some excellent home-cooking tips. I likely won't ever eat a churro again because last night's was absolute perfection. I definitely recommend him. You are sure to have a memorable evening.

Chef Gustavo lead our work team on a culinary adventure, showing us the most amazing versions of some of Latin America's most iconic dishes. He shared his own journey along the way, and gave us some incredible tips and tricks. We learned his secret ingredient to many dishes: "corazon" and Chef generously taught us how to use it in all of his dishes. He was warm, open, playful, and a real talent in the kitchen. Did I mention his food was to die for? We highly recommend any of Chef Gustavo's experiences, and I strongly suspect we're going to be back for more in the future!
