Prepare the jack-o’-lantern rice krispies treats. Line a sheet pan with parchment paper. Measure and prep all ingredients. If using the chocolate taffy, take the taffy and divide it into two. Use the heat of your hand to roll the chocolate taffy into a small rod for the stem of the pumpkin. If using the pretzel sticks, break the pretzel sticks into 3-4 inch pieces.
In a pot over low heat, melt the butter.
Add the marshmallows until just melted. Stir in the salt and vanilla extract.
Stir the orange food coloring, a drop or two at a time until the desired color is achieved. Stir in the crisped rice cereal.
Either grease your hands or wear disposable gloves. Take about 2-3 tablespoons of orange rice krispies and shape it into a ball. (See notes 2.)
Stick a prepared chocolate taffy or a thin pretzel stick in the center and a green M&M next to it, for the pumpkin leaf.
Repeat with the remaining orange rice krispies. Let the jack-o’-lantern rice crispies set and come to room temperature before moving on to the next step, about 10-15 minutes.
Place the black icing (or melted dark chocolate/ black candy melts) in a piping bag with a #2 or #3 tip. Alternatively, use a plastic zip top bag with a tiny hole cut in the corner.
Pipe the jack-o-lantern’s face onto the orange rice krispies.
Use a toothpick if necessary to finesse the details. The jack-o'-lantern rice krispies treats are complete.
Prepare the spider rice krispies treats. Grease and line a 9x9 pan with parchment paper. Measure and prep all ingredients.
In a pot over low heat, melt the butter.
Add sixteen ounces of marshmallows and stir until just melted. Stir in the salt and vanilla extract. Turn off the heat.
Stir in the crisped rice cereal.
Stir in the remaining four ounces of marshmallows.
Quickly transfer the mixture into the prepared pan. Evenly spread the rice krispies treats. Do not press down hard.
Let the rice krispies set, about 30 minutes. Slice the rice krispies into rectangles.
In a medium microwave-safe bowl, add the regular-sized marshmallows and melt for 30 seconds, or until the marshmallows puff up. Stir and let the marshmallows cool slightly.
Take some of the melted marshmallows and stretch them out with your hands.
Place the stretched marshmallow over the prepared rice krispie treat, tucking the ends to the back of the rice krispie treat. (See notes 3.)
Repeat the steps until the rice krispie treats are covered and have a web-like effect.
Place a peeled miniature peanut butter cup with the larger side facing down onto the rice krispie treat.
Attach two candy eyes onto the peanut butter cup with a bit of melted chocolate or icing.
Place the black icing (or melted dark chocolate/ black candy melts) in a piping bag with a #3 tip. Alternatively, use a plastic zip top bag with a tiny hole cut in the corner. Draw on the legs of the spiders.
Let the chocolate set. Your spider rice krispies treats are now complete.
Prepare the mummy rice krispies treats. Prepare a tray of rice krispies treats like the steps mentioned in the spider rice krispies treats. Divide into rectangular pieces.
Place the melted white candy melts (or white chocolate) in a piping bag with a #45 (alternatively #44 or #46) tip. Alternatively, use a plastic zip top bag with a small flat hole cut in the corner. Use the flat side of the piping tip to create the mummy’s ribbons all over the rice krispies treat. Remember to leave a space in the upper third for the candy eyes.
Place the candy eyes on the mummy rice krispies treats. The mummy rice krispies treats are complete.
Serve and enjoy your creations!
