What You’ll Do

Learn how to become a star baker during this "Great British Bake Off" themed cooking class.

Recreate the cozy magic of "The Great British Bake Off" at home with this online cooking class! Toss on your favorite apron, brew a fresh pot of English breakfast tea and follow along as the gourmet instructors help you create a menu of delectable baked goods inspired by the hit show. During class, you'll whip up a duo of showstopping dishes, including a Victoria sandwich cake with raspberry jam and whipped cream, as well as a batch of savory scones, served with classic British condiments and sharp English cheddar cheese.

GROCERIES:
Coarse salt and a peppermill
4 Đ’Đ… cups all-purpose flour
1 cup granulated sugar
Đ’Ñ˜ cup confectionersĐ²Đ‚â„¢ sugar
2 tablespoons baking powder
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
3 large eggs, at room temperature
4 sticks unsalted butter, (3 sticks softened, 1 stick frozen)
1 Đ’Ñ˜ cups whole milk
1 cup heavy cream
4 ounces goat cheese (chevre) or sharp cheddar cheese, plus more for serving with scones (optional)
1 small bunch rosemary or thyme (or dried)
Đ’Đ… cup good-quality seedless raspberry preserves
Branston Pickle or Major Grey's Chutney (optional, for scones)

Measuring cups (liquid and dry) and measuring spoons
Two 8- or 9-inch round cake pans
Parchment paper or a silicone baking mat
Stand mixer with whisk attachment or electric hand mixer*
Cooling rack
Box grater
Bench scraper (optional)
Rubber spatula
Whisk
Offset spatula

*PLEASE NOTE: You will need a standing or hand-held electric mixer for this class in order to achieve the right texture on the Victoria Sandwich Cake. If you don't have one, plan ahead and borrow one (and pay that lovely person back with an excellent slice of cake!).

What a wonderful class!! Natanya is an excellent teacher! I am an experienced baker and I learned lots of new tips and tricks! She did a great job keeping the class together and answering all the questions. Everyone was successful!
