What You’ll Do

South America is a continent with a serious sweet tooth — and, luckily, desserts to sate it.

In this hands-on class with Chef Gustavo, you will learn how to prepare an assortment of South America's most delectable offerings that are perfect for your first foray into the world of South American pastries.

You will begin in Argentina as Chef Gustavo teaches you how to make a lusciously smooth homemade dulce de leche in the traditional Argentine way. Then, you will use your milky marmalade concoction to fill up homemade cinnamon sugar-spiked Spanish churros, and soft, heavenly cookies sandwiched with dulce de leche.

Guests are welcome to bring wine and beer to enjoy during the class.

Latin American cuisine is what Chef Gustavo is all about. As the owner and executive chef of Rumba Café in Adams Morgan for 20 years, he understands this cuisine more than anything else. He draws his inspiration from his own travels through Latin America, the Caribbean, France, Spain and more. He studied at L’ Academie de Cuisine and is knowledgeable in French cuisine as well. He is available to teach classes in both English and Spanish.

Chef Gustavo was a great host, warm, friendly, and extremely knowledgeable about the cuisine and culture. The food was delicious, would definitely recommend.

Gustavo is a very experienced chef who didn’t mind to share his secrets. Food was awesome and we all took samples and left overs home. He is very humble and personal, made it easy to ask any question. Will look out for his classes and book again.
