Cooking Class - Dinner in Charleston: The Best of Southern Cooking with Chef John

What You’ll Do

Join Chef John for a little Southern hospitality as you fry, bake and boil yourself into a lovely evening.

A master of Southern cuisine, Chef John will share all of his secrets to making a classic Carolina supper. In this class you’ll learn what goes into your favorite Southern dishes and how to recreate each at home.

This hearty Southern meal includes the signature Carolina dish, Hoppin’ John with Carolina Gold rice paired with homemade butter. A slab of crispy pork belly is also on the menu, alongside classic boiled peanuts and, of course, fried green tomatoes. The night ends on a sweet note with blackberry dumplings topping with a Meyer lemon glaze.

Meet your chef

As a youngster, Chef John would skip school to make tomato soup and grilled cheese from scratch at home. Decades later, his passion for fresh food is just as strong as it ever was. He headed to college where he befriended and learned from chefs from the Caribbean, Southwest, Mexico and the South. Today, he travels to the Southwest and the South to discover new and exciting cooking techniques.
