What a fun, special night with our son and daughter-in-law. Of course the food was excellent. Being a part of making the meal in a San Fransico home made it that much more special. We had a very enjoyable time with Chef James! HIs home is very pleasant, he is very personable and he was a great host and instructor. We started with apps (all premium cheeses, meats, breads and olives) while we gathered everyone who was a part of our class together. We had a number of people who did not know each other, which made for a fun time of interacting, getting to know each other and sharing experiences and perspectives. We cooked gnocchi together - from the boiled potatoes to the ricing to the kneading to the rolling and cutting to the forking - with each step explained and options shared. Then Chef James cooked it into an amazing (yet simple) sauce and we ate that as our first course. We were all stuffed - and then came the main course of meat and salad - and then dessert! So much amazing food - all high quality ingredients and well prepared. We were stuffed - and happy! (We all brought wine and shared it, too) Chef James took pictures of us throughout and forwarded them to us with the recipes for what we learned to cook as well as the recipes for the other foods he prepared. Now we can cook the at home. Overall, a great experience that we highly recommend.

While James was nice, this was not an Italian comfort cooking class. We cooked one dish- gnocchi- which was delicious and then we sat at the table while he cooked the rest. The dinner also took over well over 3 hours. We just felt like this was falsely advertised- it was a one dish cooking class. James was a great host but it wasnĐ²Đ‚â„¢t the cooking class we thought we were paying for.

Chef James was a wonderful host with a cute apartment in a nice part of SF. He did a great job of explaining his cooking methods and giving us tips for what to do and use at home. The food was absolutely delicious and we are definitely going to try to make the dishes at home as well. The only disappointment I had was the amount of hands on activity throughout the whole experience. When booking this class I was under the impression that we would be cooking all of the dishes but we were only in the kitchen for about 30 minutes all together and only got to participate in prepping the gnocchi. This will affect my choice of booking a class in the future.

Chef James was great, the meal was awesome. The only issue that we had was this was labelled a cooking class, however we were only involved in making the gnocchi (and not the other meals). Otherwise, the meal was great and Chef was extremely nice.

Chef James was fantastic. We had a lovely meal in his beautiful home. He was warm, inviting and was open to all questions. The conversation was easy and light he gave us a great class on how to make an impressive gnocchi. James has been in the bay area for many years and has many SF restaurant recommendations. We got our hands "floury" while learning how to make gnocchi and were able to relax, drink wine, and chat while he prepared the rest of the meal. A great date night that was a little different and fun!

Chef James' house was lovely. We met up there with another young couple and the whole experience of making pasta with Chef James and taking turns kneading and rolling the dough was a lot of fun. I just wish we had the chance to cook more of the dishes.

I booked a class with James for my wife's birthday along with a group of of friends. I can't speak highly enough about what an amazing experience we all had. First, James' home was beautiful and he was an extremely welcoming and gracious host. Our night was part cooking class and part private dinner. We had a hand in making the pasta and appetizers. The main course and desserts were incredible. We eat out quite a bit, and this hands down beat any restaurant experience we could have had for my Wife's birthday. We're already planning another trip back to James' home with friends. Thank you so much for a great night and we highly recommend this class/event to others!

Booked the Italian cooking class: 5-stars for the wonderful atmosphere. Loved chef James' home. James was also very accommodating regarding our ending time and never actually asked us to leave or anything. So we were truly able to enjoy the food and company. 4-stars for the food. It was very very good. 3-stars for the actual learning/hands-on cooking experience. We enjoyed watching chef James in his kitchen prepare some appetizers, ask him questions, and then make the pasta for our first dish ourselves. Unfortunately, the rest of the dinner was pre-prepared so we didn't actually get to see him make the beef, sause or desert. Chef James simply served us the dishes as we were sitting at the dining table. He did explain how he made the dishes if you asked, I just wish we could have at least watched him actually make it. If you're looking for a very hands-on experience then this class might not be right for you.

I took a guest with me to Chef James's Italian cooking class where we joined another couple who had booked the same class. The entire experience was fantastic and the food delicious. We started off the class with some tasty tapas and Padron peppers, then made homemade pasta from scratch. The main dish was a delicious beef brisket and we finished the evening with my favorite dessert prepared by Chef James.

Chef James was friendly, very knowledgeable about food, and the meals he prepared for us were delicious, especially the bolognese. It was a lot of fun learning to make pappardelle, however that was the only thing we did that got our hands dirty, and I would've liked to do some more actual cooking :)

We booked the Italian cooking class with chef James as a team event. We enjoyed making pasta from scratch although some of us thought it may be better less al dente. The rest of the dinner was pre-prepared but he did explain how he made the dishes and explained the way the sauces are made in different regions in Italy. Great tip about adding grated carrots for sweetness. And appetizers were fun as we chatted and made the pasta. James was also very accommodating regarding our starting and ending time which was appreciated. Our team enjoyed the experience. Remember to bring your own drinks.

We had the best experience at Chef James's home. It was a gorgeous set-up, and the food was absolutely delicious. He had prepared a lot ahead of time so it was completely seamless and we were able to participate in the cooking (making pasta from scratch!) but also enjoy socializing with each otehr in a great location.

Chef James was incredibly hospitable and made a delicious meal (with a bit of our help). We did a private, 15-person dinner at his home which was a great way to do something a little different. We had groups of 5-8 rotate through the kitchen, contributing to different steps in the meal. This worked out great as it allowed the group to socialize and also get involved in the cooking. Those that wanted to do more participated in all of the steps whereas others were in and out. The whole night was a big success thanks to Chef James!

I booked this experience with Chef James as a Christmas present from our grandma to her granddaughter. She's 11 and is interested in being chef. Chef James was wonderfully inviting and friendly from the moment we all stepped into his home, and enjoyed some cheese, meats, and anchovy stuffed olives. We then helped to cook the risotto, and enjoyed the fruits of our work :) The risotto was amazing, cooked perfectly and so flavorful! We also loved the dolce cake for dessert - it was a wonderful end to the evening. I would recommend this experience to anyone!

Although James was a gracious host, the experience was underwhelming for $125 per person. This was mostly because the main part of creating a pizza is the dough and we arrived with the dough already made. In the description of the class, it says at the very beginning "You'll learn to make pizza dough from scratch". Unfortunately, this was false advertising and rather we merely added toppings to the existing pizza dough and baked the pizzas in the over.

This was my first Cozymeal class and Chef James was the perfect host to initiate myself to the world of virtual cooking. He was friendly and entertaining, providing us with some history and trivia about gnocchi. He did not rush the group and calmly demonstrated each step of the process. By then end of the class, I had created a respectable meal. I also appreciated the clear instructions he sent ahead of time regarding the preparation of certain items prior to the start of the class. I would not hesitate to sign up for another Chef James class or to recommend his class to a friend.

The class was ok but not amazing. The chef seemed very low energy so it was hard to get into it. He also didn't really take charge of the class by calling people out to introduce themselves, instead giving a plain "introduce yourselves" command, so it was hard to know when to unmute or not. There was someone in the class who didn't really know how to properly use Zoom, and instead of just muting them himself, they kept interrupting with loud feedback noises. A few things bothered me that he said, unrelated to the cooking. One was that the Spanish "discovered" potatoes... The Incas were actually the first to cultivate potatoes thousands of years ago, and the Spanish took potatoes back to Spain only after they came and rampaged the Americas. Another was that he called the San Fransisco neighborhood he lived in a "War Zone"... There are quite a few of those in the world right now and I'm pretty sure they're not comfortably in California making grass-fed ribeye. Lastly, he asked a someone in the class with a similar name first name to mine if she was Italian, and when he said her name my boyfriend and I both thought he'd said mine. I answered him to say my (first) name wasn't Italian but Irish, and noted I was Mexican and French, but instead of just going with it he decided to correct me and then weirdly include that he spoke both Italian and Spanish. Ok... I also speak both of those, plus German and French. Would've been nice if he'd chosen to engage me in the story I'd just told about my heritage instead of correcting and bragging about something unimpressive, but alas, that was the only real "conversation" my boyfriend and I had with James during our class. Bottom line, we didn't really do or learn anything we couldn't have done or learned from a YouTube video, and on YouTube we would've left without being ever so slightly put off.

James was awesome. Great appetizers, food was amazing and he even let me into is bar. He explained everything he was doing and using and techniques which was all very interesting. He even followed up by sending us recipes and the types of cookware he used. The only reason I don't give it a 5 star is I wish we would have had some type of role in the cooking. I know this is difficult when you have a group in your kitchen but I would have liked to participate more then just the eating. Then again, I know this wasn't a cooking class so I would make this a 4.5 if possible.

My wife and I attended the Pantry Paella class and we had a wonderful time. Chef James was patient and very knowledgeable. Great Class! This was a wonderful way to spend an evening. Chef James did a wonderful job of explaining the details as well as providing some background on the tadeonal meal. Being able to ask real time questions as well as show the Chef our progress helped take away any questions.

My expectations were met in the manner with which Chef James handled the cooking experience. He was patient and polite with his answers to some of the cooking questions. I enjoyed hearing about the little anecdotes about how the Spaniards love their own olive oil and other PROPER ingredients that they use for their paella!

Chef James was engaging, shared stories and history of the dish we were making. He provided the recipe and tips well in advance of the class. He also took us on a nice tour of his home as we waited for a colleague to catch up with his cooking steps to fill the time, which was very sweet/nice of him to share with us.

Chef James' food was fantastic. He was very flexible when we needed to shorten the evening and when accommodating dietary restrictions. It was a great balance of relaxed and hands on and I personally can't wait to make the recipes he taught us. Unlike many other meatballs in the restaurant, the savoury tradition meatball dish that we had with James was authentic and made from very fresh ingredients (only the best) that makes it extremely enjoyable - one that you cannot miss if you havenĐ²Đ‚â„¢t already tried it. It leaves a lasting impression on our stomach and minds; we constantly crave for more. At the end, we had the most tasteful blueberry cheesecake that we thoroughly enjoyed. Beyond the food quality, James is a very down-to-earth person who is knowledgeable in his expertise and is warm, patient and friendly. These attributes contributed to our very fun-filled cooking class. He was also very thoughtful in the dinner set up with the candles and music which made the ambience very pleasant and romantic (you could even think of it as a candlelit dinner in the comfort of your own home) I would love to come back to the cooking class with him when I am back to San Francisco, I think our flight of 15 hours from Singapore is all worth it. Bravo to Chef James! I will highly recommend him to anyone who is looking for a dinner party or just a private cooking class! He is THE Chef you are looking for. Too good to say good bye ! I am kinda disappointed after attending this class. I would say this was actually not a class, it was more like a social or eating event to be exact. We were not provided any hands on experience at all during the whole class. No receipes were given during the class. We were just standing in the kitchen and watching James cooked for about an hour. He gave little details on how he cooked the Paella. Most often times, people asked him why this and why that, then he answered. Seems like he is very passive in a way of teaching but he cooked a really yummy Paella. If I knew the class will be like that, I would not have signed up this class. We can just watch YouTube online. Maybe this is not the class that I expected. I expected a more hands on practice. And I expected the chef/teacher will explain more details to enchance our cooking knowledge and of course on how to properly cook a Paella. I wonder if all the classes at CozyMeals are like that. I would like to sign up for other classes but this class makes me think twice before I sign up the next one. One thing I found funny is liek I received an email asking me to tip the chef. Is it a restaurant? Or a class? Felt like it's more like a restaurant to me if I am being asked for a tip. If you are looking for a real cooking class, it's not a place. If you want to eat yummy Paella and spent few hours together with your significant half, that's the place.

This was a very unique and different experience, especially as part of our bachelorette party weekend. Chef James has a beautiful home and I loved how we were able to see and witness every step of the cooking process. The ingredients he bought were gorgeous and fresh, the Bouillabaisse was unbelievable and I am still drooling over the homemade garlic aoli he made. Our entire party had a blast and I would highly recommend to anyone to take a class, especially for a large group, because you will be able to interactive with the chef as well as your party versus going to a restaurant.

We had an awesome time learning to make pizzas with Chef James. He is fun to work with and took good care of us - there was a cheese plate with olives waiting for us on arrival, followed by all the pizzas that we baked (everyone gets to make their own pizzas, and then eat them too :D) and then a yummy dessert in the end. He walked us through the baking and the technical details around the ingredients and the process, as we were making our pizzas - so an informative session. He was open to questions and patiently answered each and every one of them! All in all, will recommend this class to any pizza lover out there! :)

Chef James was very kind and welcoming to our group of 8. Making pasta the old-fashioned way was a new and exciting experience for the many of us. We each took turns mixing, kneading, rolling, and cutting the dough. Afterwards, Chef James served us the remaining 3-courses of our meal. Everyone in our group thought the food was delicious and thought the entire experience was fun and a great opportunity for bonding.

We walked away not only knowing how to make a mean paella, but also where to get the freshest seafood, what's in season when, best stovetops and equipment for aspiring culinarians, and how to watch out for 'knock-off' saffron. James' expertise was only eclipsed by his "mi casa es su casa" hospitality: the cheese plate awaiting us on arrival was exquisite and the guitar music remarkably on-point. Chef James taught a private Neopolitan style pizza class in my home for my husband's birthday, and it was so much fun! He's very knowledable about Italian cooking, and presents clear and concise demos for various steps of the pizza making process. For our class, he had already prepped the pizza dough and topping beforehand, so every person in our group was able shape, top, and bake their own pizza. He also prepared a salad, some simple apps, and a dessert to go with the meal, so I would definitely classify this as a hybrid cooking/eating class, rather than just a cooking class, as we really only made 1 part of the meal as a group (this is fair, as he wants us to be able to eat something at the end of the night, and this class would be much longer if we all made everything we ate. I thought this is something to call out so people are aware). Chef James is also very personable, responsive over email, and Instagram-famous, so you'll be featured on his Instagram feed, if you'd like :) Thanks again, Chef James, it was a blast, and everything was delicious!

Chef James graciously hosted us at his house for a team event. There were around 10 of us and we opted for the vegetarian paella menu. Even though it was pouring rain in San Francisco, we had a wonderful time and thoroughly enjoyed our Paella lesson. It was fun, but it's definitely not a traditional cooking class. You don't have a setup where everyone is making food in parallel and following along with the chef. Instead you're in his kitchen watching him make food and then you take turns with whomever else is in attendance to make food as well. Also, you only make the pasta, the salad and dessert are prepared by the chef at that time or ahead of time. A fun experience overall, but definitely not a traditional cooking class.

Wonderful experience for our company holiday party. Original. Great way to bond over cooking and lunching together. Chef James was wonderful. His home lovely and welcoming, full of unique antique pieces. And the food was succulent. Highly recommended.

My co-workers and I had an amazing cooking experience with Chef James! Chef James has a beautiful house in SF and graciously welcomed us in and made us feel right at home. Our group of 15 felt pampered by Chef James and his crew at Chef James' lovely home. The food was fabulous from the plentiful and tasty hors d'oeuvres to the bitter lettuces salad, the homemade pasta with locally grown mushrooms, the very tender brisket and French beans to the light and satisfying French cheesecake. This was a team dinner for 5 people celebrating their success on a project they worked on and winning an award. Chef James' home made you feel very welcomed and warm; his kitchen is every cook's dream to have if you are living in the city. He taught us how to make gnocchi and the reason for the cooking tools being used. The team had cooking questions outside of what he was preparing and he graciously answered all of them in detail. Food and presentation was amazing and we didn't feel rushed at all to leave. Great choice of Louis Armstrong music playing in the background.

We had a great time and it was a seamless experience. Food wasn't bad and it wasn't great. We all were expecting something different and we wouldn't recommend this type of cooking class or meal considering the price point (over $100 per person). It was more like having a private dinner party with a friendly chef. Pros: Chef James is very organized, responsive and a great host. He was kind enough to take some of our photos and send us receipes via email. - 5 stars Cozymeal website is easy to use and they were very helpful in setting up last minute. -5 stars Venue was slean, organized and they took care of everything. - 5 stars Cons: "Class" - It's not the class experience we expected. We basically stood around and watched. Several folks tried to make it more of a class by asking a lot of questions. The class was not hands on or very interactive. We watched him make one basic dish and the paella itself. - 2 stars Food - Not bad but not great. In general, for a 3 course "class" and meal over $100 per person not including drinks plus we had two no shows so there was an extra profit margin for Cozymeal, it didn't meet our expectations. Chef James used good ingredients, however, the entire group felt the food was - 2-3 stars. Veggie Food - 3 of us had a vegetarian main dish which consisted of garbanzo beans, squash and eggplant in a ight red sauce. It was basic and I never heard of a veggie paella that didn't have rice in it... :/ ..? Also, there was a limited amount so 3 vegetarians left the dinner still hungry. We couldn't share with our friends who wanted to try our dish because we were still hungry... I'm not trying to be mean, however, I would say our main dish was more like a appetizer comparable to a side of hummus with squash and eggplant worth ~$6-8. It would have made a big difference to have rice and some additional veggies in the dish. - 1 star I hope this is helpful. Cheers!

My team visited Chef James for a corporate offsite. He made us feel right at home in his lovely abode. He provided us with great food, great conversation, and great pizza-cooking tips. We would highly recommend him! Pizza was great, and he also suggested Paella as a fun group item.

We had a fun night with Chef James. We bought food together at a market and then joined him in his kitchen for the prep and then meal. By one critique is that I wish there was more content to the evening--meaning learning more, hearing more stories about what we were eating and the style of cooking. Overall, the food was fantastic.

A terrific meal, simply prepared. I was looking to learn some cooking techniques. He made a pasta with cream sauce, a salad, sauteed squashes and ramps, and a leg of lamb, each with only a few ingredients, but all wonderful.

We loved our experience with Chef James. We enjoyed designing the menu for a variety of tastes within our family, and helped pick the veggies and meats at the local market and pasta shop. Chef James is very hospitable and is truly gifted in making all cooking steps easy to grasp all while being a gracious host in his beautiful home. Chef James's Italian cooking class was one of the best company off-sites I could have organized. Chef James' home is beautiful and spacious. We had a large group of 12 and we had enough room to be in the living room while a small group of us helped Chef James in the kitchen. The class itself exceed expectations and the food was delicious. We made pasta from scratch and we helped contribute to the meal as much as we individually wanted to. I could not recommend this class more and I'm excited to try Cozymeal in the future!

Chef James was incredible. My siblings and I decided to do something different for my dad's 60th birthday and we decided on an evening with Chef James. As a group we made pasta while Chef James had the other plates already cooking. We drank wine, ate cheese, and had amazing conversation. Everyone was thrilled with the experience!

Chef James has a beautiful house and had a great set up. He's also a very nice guy and was very accommodating to all of our requests and changes. My only complaint is that I wish there were a little bit more participation. I understand that that's difficult with a big group (we were 12), but even so, it would have been nice to participate in more of the prep work.

Our evening with Chef James was fantastic. His home is lovely and he clearly enjoys teaching others about Spanish cooking. We even picked up some great tips on where to go for the best ingredients in SF. It should be noted that the paella class is not the most interactive (a by product of the way the dish is prepared, not a criticism) - so bring a few bottles of wine and plan to spend some time getting to know the others in your party. I highly recommend the experience and Chef James in particular.

Our Italian dinner with chef James was just amazing. His beautiful Victorian home was the perfect setting for a cozy dinner. At first we snacked on some delicious appetizers while chatting about food and travels. And getting ready to make PASTA! Chef James introduced me to Padron Peppers which I have been making since then at least twice a week. They are in season now! Thanks chef James. Everyone was able to give the pasta dough a knead and roll some. We had the pasta with yummy Bolognese, followed by a delicious main course of slow-cooked beef with corn and peppers. Dessert: Light cheese cake. This diner was a great experience and can only recommend it for locals and new-to-the city people top meet new friends! Cheers!

More than just a cooking class, really a great food experience - a combination of Paella background and the ingredients, the actual cooking learning the nuanced technique to creating a delicious Paella, followed by a very fine dinner with three new friends enjoying great food and conversation. I had an outstanding evening as a guest along with three other fellow foodies who I had not previously met, with Chef James as a great host and teacher. Highly recommend this experience, now time to practice up on preparing some Paella at home.

I got lucky and was in a group with very friendly and approachable people. We had great conversations throughout the night. The food was amazing and I liked how Chef James was very personable and gave us a chance to get to know him. I'm giving this 4 stars because I wish it was a little more hands on. This was more of a social event, but I wish we had a chance to all work together on the dish or even the salad and dessert.

We had a nice dinner with Chef James at his beautiful home in Haight-Ashbury! This was in conjunction with Yelp, so we got a good deal ($15 a person!) and a slightly shorter/smaller meal: we made gnocchi, followed by salad & dessert that was already done. There was plenty of wine all evening, and there were bowls of local olives, chorizo, and nuts to nibble on. Everything was set up to start cooking the gnocchi and Chef James was welcoming. He let us pitch in where we wanted and answered any questions we had about cooking, whether it was related to this meal or not, and about the food scene in general in SF. He could've been a little more engaging when interacting with us - he's a bit introverted (which I totally understand as a strong introvert myself. But I can also "fake" being much more extroverted when needed for networking, etc). I found we had to make a good deal of the effort in having a conversation with him, especially for the first 30-45 minutes when we were mingling and just hanging around the kitchen (not everyone knew each other either). The CEO of Cozymeal was also there, and he was very pleasant and great to get to know. He was genuinely interested in our experience with Cozymeal but we also got to know him as just another San Franciscan who's interested in the food scene!

A great class! Chef James is patient and very knowledgeable about Spanish cuisine. It was great to see the paella being put together from start to finish, and well worth the wait -- it was delicious. The flavors were rich and nuanced and the soccarat was perfect. And the Quesada was a great finish -- sweet and satiating but light and refreshing. Thanks, Chef James!
