What You'll Do

Get a taste of the Philippines' famed Aristocrat Restaurant chicken barbecue with Chef Nancy.

In the Philippines, The Aristocrat Restaurant is synonymous with chicken barbecue and in this cooking class you'll learn to bring such flavors home. The establishment's Asian-style barbecue and accompanying sides were developed through many years of recipe tests from the kitchen of its founder Engracia Reyes and her family that still runs it.

In this cooking class, you'll learn to prepare a vermicelli chicken soup, a vibrant fried rice dish with ground beef and sofrito and a fresh salad with shrimp paste dressing. The main course will be a classic Filipino chicken barbeque. The barbecue marinade, however, will remain a family secret. These dishes will be served family-style, garnished with memorable stories about the 80-year-old restaurant. Finally, you'll end the meal with an old-fashioned version of halo-halo.

Guests are welcome to bring wine and beer to enjoy during the class.

Chef Nancy made us feel welcomed in her home and the cooking experience we had with her was amazing! She was very attentive to our needs and gave us good tips and feedback that we can incorporate into our own cooking at home. She had us taste test different ingredients as we cooked the food as opposed to tasting the final product. She shared with us her cultural culinary background and fun stories. I highly recommend taking one of Chef Nancy's cooking classes to not only gain culinary knowledge but to also have fun with cooking!
